Masada - But in 66 AD during the Jewish revolt, a group of Jewish extremists, called the Sicarii, overcame the Roman garrison at Masada. By 70 AD almost 1000 Jewish people fled Jerusalem and settled on the mountaintop, using it as a base for harassing the Romans.
